Prof. Amalia Spina is researcher at Department of Physics and Geology of University of Perugia (Italy) where presently she is Professor of Integrated Stratigraphy and Micropaleontology at the Master Course in Geology for Energy Resources. She obtained a PhD in Earth Science at University of Siena (Italy) and a post-PhD grant in stratigraphic palynology and Organic Matter thermal maturity at University of Lille (France). Her research is mainly focused on stratigraphy, including applications to hydrocarbon exploration. Her chief interest of study comprises stratigraphic and biostratigraphic (palynology) researches in terrigenous and carbonate sequences mainly of Palaeozoic and lower Mesozoic age, in collaboration with Italian and foreign researchers. Her research currently addresses the thermal maturity of organic matter. She analyses the thermal maturity of organic elements by quantitative optical studies as Palynomorph Darkness Index and spectroscopy as Raman and FTIR. Other research interests regard the biostratigraphic, stratigraphic, palaeoenvironmental and palaeogeographic reconstructions of Palaeozoic and Lower Mesozoic successions of Gondwana Domain. Her research is active in numerous parts of the world, including Northern Africa (Morocco, Libya, Tunisia, etc.), Southern Africa (Mozambique), Antarctica, China, Italy, Estonia, Arctic Canada and Antarctica. She held seminars and lectures in several foreigner Universities (Lille, Faro, Ankara, Pammukkale, Portsmouth, etc.).
