Prof. Hongjun Qu graduated from China Northwest University in 1988, received master degree, and PhD from the same University in 1995, 2003, respectively; been trained and did research work in Sri Lanka as a visiting scholar under the grant of China National Scholarship Council from 1997 to 1988 in the interim; and did postdoctoral research in Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences between 2004 and 2006. Afterwards, he worked at geology department, China Northwest University as an associate Professor and Professor until now.

Prof. Qu is a member of Chinese Society for Mineralogy and Petrology Geochemistry, and is also one of three editorial board members of Journal of Palaeogeography (Chinese Edition), Natural Gas Geoscience, and Unconventional Oil & Gas. His research is focused on sedimentology, reservoir sedimentology, basin analysis and petroleum exploration. He has presided and undertook more than 30 research tasks or projects of national, provincial and enterprise cooperational, including three tasks of China Grand National Science & Technology Specific Projects, two projects of China National Natural Science Fund, and one task of the National Key Research Project of China. With main achievements on sedimentology and hydrocarbon accumulation geology, he conducted depth research on sedimentology and oil & gas distribution and accumulation rules in moe than 70 worldwide deepwater basins, achieved fruitful results as establishing global deep-water oil & gas geology database, publishing over 70 papers as the first or the corresponding author, and gaining the first prize of Higher Education Science & Technology Award of Shaanxi Province, China.
