Emilia Le Pera currently works as an Associate Professor at the Department of Biology, Ecology and Earth Sciences (DiBEST), University of Calabria. She received her PhD degree in Sedimentology at the Earth Sciences Department of the University of Bologna, Italy in 1998. From 1998 to 1999, she held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Geological Sciences, University of Comptens, Italy, and the Italian National Research Council. From 2001 to 2004, she held the permanent position of researcher of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). She became a tenured Associate Professor at DiBEST, Department of Earth Sciences, Department of Biological and Ecological Sciences, University of Cosenza, Calabria, Italy, in 2005. On She was selected as a full professor in the Italian National Competition for GEO/02 - Stratigraphy and Sedimentology (04/A - Earth Sciences) disciplines and fields, in 2016.

Prof. Emilia Le Pera is Author of more than 100 research items and works dominantly on: sand(stone) petrology: provenance; efficacy of weathering, source rock lithotypes, transport and depositional environment on composition/texture of siliciclastic sand(stones). Main field study areas are Italy; Spain, Portugal; California; India, Brazil, Switzerland, Norway, Cape Verde archipelago (Atlantic Ocean), Aeolian archipelago (Tyrrhenian Sea). She received the Tarquin C. Teale Award from Imperial College London, in 1991.
