Youbin He is a professor at School of Geosciences of Yangtze University. In 1986, he received a bachelor's degree from Jianghan Petroleum Institute. In 1989 and 1992, he received his master’s degree from China University of Petroleum.

He has been dedicated to the teaching and researching work on paleogeography, sedimentary geology, and reservoir geology. Over the past 30 years, his research focused on the medium-large scale paleogeography (lithofacies paleogeography in South China), deep-water sedimentology (gravity flow deposits, contourites, internal-wave and internal-tide deposits). He has been awarded the Provincial-level Teaching Achievement Awards and Scientific and Technological Progress Awards for 10 times. He has published more than 100 academic papers, co-authored 9 monographs and textbooks. He was awarded the National Excellent Teacher and Hubei Outstanding Teacher of National Higher Education.
