Santanu Banerjee

Prof. Santanu Banerjee is Indian. He received his bachelor degree from Burdwan University in 1990, master degree from Allahabad University in 1992, and PhD from Jadavpur University in 1997. Afterward, he served as an Assistant Geologist in Geological Survey of India from 1997-1999. Then he moved to Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 1999, and worked there as an Assistant Professor and Professor until now.

His research is focused on sedimentology, basin analysis, reservoir sedimentology and petroleum exploration. He is the vice president of the Indian Association of Sedimentologists (since 2016), and was the international councilor of the Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM) from 2014 to 2016. He is now the Chief Associate Editor of the Journal of Palaeogeography, and Associate Editor of the Journal of Earth Systems ScienceJournal of the Geological Society of IndiaArabian Journal of Geosciences, and Indian Journal of Geosciences. He has written one and edited 2 sedimentological books, and published over 105 journal papers and 15 chapters in books, with a total citation of over 2700 times and an h-index of 30. He won the Indian National Geoscience Award in Basic Geosciences in 2016. He also received excellence in teaching award from IIT Bombay.
